With his musical roots stemming from Nashville, Tennessee, Dr. Christian Johnson has branched out across the world to enhance his pianistic studies. Having participated in numerous international summer piano festivals, including the 2014 InterHarmony Music Festival in Italy and the East/West International Piano Festival in China (2016-2018), Dr. Johnson’s concentrated educational experience propelled him to earn a Bachelor’s degree in piano performance from Lipscomb University studying with Jerome Reed, and the Master and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln under the tutelage of Paul Barnes.
Dr. Johnson continues to actively collaborate with world-renowned composers, such as Philip Glass and Victoria Bond, by arranging and engraving their works. During the Fall of 2020, Dr. Johnson digitally copied Victoria Bond’s “Black Light” concerto for piano and orchestra from the handwritten manuscript, and assisted in arranging the work for two pianos, four hands. At the start of 2021, Dr. Johnson worked alongside pianist Paul Barnes to arrange and engrave Philip Glass’s Piano Quintet No. 1 “Annunciation” into a solo piano work. In October of 2021, Dr. Johnson assisted in the creation and coordination of the “Celebration of Victoria Bond” concert, and gave the world premiere for Bond’s song cycle, “From an Antique Land,” for baritone and piano.
