Miguel Castro

Miguel Castro is a multi-faceted pianist known for his deep passion for teaching and performing both as a soloist and in chamber ensembles, as well as arranging liturgical music.

He has delivered performances in various countries including Venezuela, Peru, Brazil, and the United States. Notably, he has played with the Symphonic Orchestra of Paraguaná, the Symphonic Orchestra of Barinas, the Symphonic Orchestra of Falcón, the Civic Orchestra of Baton Rouge, and the Youth Symphonic Orchestra Inocente Carreño. His participation in various prestigious competitions and festivals includes the IV Federico Chopin Competition in Lima, Peru, José Jacinto Cuevas 2018 in Merida, Mexico, where he won 1st Prize at the "III Rosario Marciano National Competition" in Venezuela, and the XIV Santa Catarina International Festival in Jaraguá do Sul, Brazil. His efforts have been recognized with several awards, such as the Student Merit Award from the Central University of Venezuela, acknowledging his contributions to the artistic and cultural domains. He has also benefitted from masterclasses with notable educators including Héctor Villasana, Claudio Carbó Montaner, Guíomar Narváez, and others.

In his role as a collaborative pianist, Castro has worked alongside Professor Lotty Ipinza at Fedora Alemán Voice Studio and served as the collaborative pianist for the Orchestral Conducting Studio under Maestro Alfredo Rugeles at Simón Bolívar University. A committed educator, he has taught at the "Manuel Alberto Lopez" School of Music in Venezuela, the “Juan Manuel Olivares” National Conservatory of Music in Venezuela, and in the Extension Courses at the National Conservatory of Music of Peru.

Castro holds a Master’s Degree in Music with a specialization in Piano Performance from Simón Bolívar University, where he studied under Russian pianist Igor Lavrov. He also earned a Certificate in Orchestral Conducting from the Central University of Venezuela in 2015, under the guidance of Master Miguel Ángel Monroy and Juan Francisco Sans. Furthering his education, he completed another Master’s Degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy at Ohio University, mentored by Dr. Emely Phelps and Dr. Christopher Fisher. Currently, he is nearing the completion of a third Master’s Degree at the University of South Florida in the piano studio of Dr. Svetozar Ivanov.
